Indie singer-songwriter Sam Brockington have released his newest single “Fool”, along with the accompanying music video. After gaining support from BBC Introducing and BBC 6Music upon the release of his debut EP Peace of Mind, his newest release takes us in a new direction, showing Sam’s growth as an artist and marking what is set to come.
The newest single “Fool” is unmistakably musically uplifting, featuring Sam’s distinctive vocals amidst melodic bass, a driving drum track and ambient guitar sounds. Lyrically the track is a burst of expression and clear anguish, written about the feeling of being held back in life by his own personal hurdles, with the aim of connecting with the listener on a more emotional level. Produced by Bat For Lashes bassist TJ Allen, the track holds an underlying profoundness whilst still appealing to listeners as an upbeat indie release.
The video represents the music beautifully as it opens up with a close-up on Sam and plays off the subtle, ambient driving sounds in the background under Sam’s vocals. As it shifts throughout different scenes, we see Sam in different areas and eventually get some brief, live-recorded footage of him rehearsing and on a stage. Towards the end as the song picks up, the more upbeat rhythm sees Sam jamming out in the video, showing off the fun he has while playing his music.
