This year I got the chance to experience Self Help Fest for the first time at the Michigan Lottery Amphitheater in Sterling Heights. The Self Help Fest is an annual festival is an annual festival that started in 2014 by Jeremy McKinnon, front-man of A Day To Remember. The festival originally started in San Bernardino, CA, and has expanded to Philadelphia, Orlando, and Detroit. This year’s Self Help Fest turned out to be more than successful, with lines forming from the venue all the way into the parking lot.
Self Help Fest 2017 lineup included bands such as:
The Plot In You
Too Close To Touch
Of Mice & Men
Falling In Reverse
Pierce The Veil
A Day To Remember
I can honestly say that the Self Help Festival was one of the most well organized festivals I’ve yet to attended, which made it all the more enjoyable. Plenty of food vendors for the audience to choose from and a well trained medical staff and security which were quick to act when needed. The bands were divided between two stages which kept things running smoothly and kept the wait between performances shorter. From the time The Plot In You took the stage as the opening act, until headliner Rise Against brought the night to a close, there was not a still moment within the venue.
The annual event is quickly becoming a must see for hardcore and alternative fans. With the impressive turn out and stellar performances, it wouldn’t surprise me if the festival continues to expand its tour over the next few years.
