As they prepare to head out on tour with Mewithoutyou and Pianos Become The Teeth, Strawberry Girls have been keeping busy in the studio as evident with their new single, “First Kiss”. The song is a throwback to the early 2000’s days of post-hardcore that the band grew up on. As Guitarist Zac Garren shared, “It’s heavily influenced by the more progressive bands of that genre that defined our tastes throughout Jr High and High School. Bands like At The Drive-In, The Fall Of Troy, and The Mars Volta. I’d say it’s the closest we’ve come to writing something similar to my previous band, Dance Gavin Dance, which was fun to do.”
“First Kiss” was the perfect choice for the title as the phrase creates nostalgia. Garren explained, “The title comes from the nostalgic nature we get from the song, which I personally view as a metaphor for the first time experiencing something new and special in life.”
Strawberry Girls have always been a very hands-on and DIY band and as Garren added, “We enjoy the creative freedom that comes with that.” Every part of the new single was done by the band including the recording process, the artwork and the video.
