Swedish electro-pop duo Exon Banks have released a dreamy rendition of 50 Cent’s hit single, “Candy Shop”. One of the duo’s first creations was a cover of 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop,” mostly because long nights of drinking always seemed to end up with the two bursting into song, highlighted by this classic…always popping into their heads like a feel-good pill.
In the wee hours of 2016, Banks created a wine-influenced downtempo beat while Exon was in the kitchen – simultaneously cooking and happily singing the lyrics to “Candy Shop.” When Exon entered the studio room, the new rendition of the track came to fruition. The vocal production & melodies became an outlet for them to re-create the song from a girl’s point of view.
“’Candy Shop’ is about asking for what you want without permission and expanding one’s perspective on femininity and gender,” the duo explains.” It’s about reclaiming the right to your own sexuality and transcending gender expectations. Most of all, it’s about being yourself and enjoying life.”
