Back in 2014 ‘Cover Your Tracks‘ was a completely different band. They were signed to Rise Records, different name, different vocalist, different sound, however that’s in the past now and ‘Cover Your Tracks’ is the newest project from the band members. In this interview you will learn about their new vocalist ‘Paul Rose’, what happened to ‘Cursed Sails’, what they have in store for the future and more! We hope you enjoy reading the interview as much as we did doing it!
Please state who you are, what your position in the band is, and one random fact about yourself someone may or may not know:
My name is Paul and I do the singing voice. A lot of people don’t know my first job was working at Walt Disney World. I was in Entertainment.
Tell us a little about how you guys met and how the band formed:
Well, I knew Brent from his old band Decoder. That’s also how i met Bryce. Which btw, we’re calling him Bruce now. Brent called me up asking if i wanted to work on some music and i said “Heck yiss!” after i heard the first few songs. I met Omar and Cory shortly after that when i flew up to record the EP.
Growing up, what inspired you to become a musician?
My parents were both very creative people, my dad a musician and my mom an artist. They were extremely supportive over anything i wanted to do. After nearly destroying all of my dads instruments he decided to finally get me my first guitar when i was 12.
Back in 2014, you guys were under the name ‘Cursed Sails’, signed to Rise Records and released your debut record ‘Rotten Society’. It seemed like everything was going pretty well for you guys, and i guess the question everyone’s asking is why the name change?
When i joined the band we all decided the direction of the band was going to change. With a new concept and new sound came the need for a new name.
How did the band decide on a new name?
We all spent weeks on end reading the dictionary front to back. After memorizing and writing out every word and definition, we really liked Cover Your Tracks.
Are you still signed to Velocity/Rise Records? If not, could you tell us what all happened?
We are not. At the end of our album cycle it was decided that we weren’t seeing eye to eye and there’s no hard feelings behind them. We wish them the best and were thankful for the opportunity they gave us.
Along with the name change you also have a new vocalist, Paul Rose. What happened to Ben Ferris? How did the band find you?
Ben married the girl of his dreams and they are living happily in Georgia. Like i said before, Brent hit the hotline and got me onboard.
Moving forward, you released a four track EP entitled ‘The Taken’. What was the writing and recording process like?
It was amazing. I am a hundred percent sure the record was fueled by the ridiculous amount of Cook-Out we were eating. If you’ve never been to a Cook-Out, I don’t know what to say.
Round & Round because its just an angry upbeat song, and i mean who doesn’t love angry upbeat songs haha
Were any of the songs written for ‘Cursed Sails’?
No, this was a completely new project.
Recently, the band posted a picture on Facebook of Paul in the studio. Are you currently recording more music?
We are. We enjoy writing and recording music so any chance we get we’ll be writing and recording new music.
Do you guys have plans to release a full-length anytime soon?
Absolutely. In fact, we’re almost done with it.
Can we expect the same sound as ‘The Taken’ on future material?
Yes and No. We want to keep the intensity of the EP but craft better songs. Like with anything we want to keep getting better at what we do. The EP was the first songs we wrote. We want our songs to get more and more delicious.
Any plans for touring?
Oh, yeah! We’ll be hitting the road sooner than you think.
Lastly, is there anything else the band would like to say or announce exclusively on Soundfiction?
We’re playing New York City at the end of February!! Follow our Twitter and Like us on FB for the deets! And thank you to everyone who’s been part of the movement so far! Hope everyone enjoys the journey we’re about to embark
That about wraps it up. Thank you for taking the time to chat with us and we can’t wait to hear more tunes from you guys!
