Blessthefall is back at it again, this time with their 5th full length album To Those Left Behind. Blessthefall isn’t reinventing the wheel with this most recent release but that doesn’t mean thats a bad thing. This album is another solid effort put out by the Phoenix based band and may be one of their best. One of the things that stood out most to me was the great transition between Jared Wrath’s heavy hitting screams and Beau Bokan’s crooning vocals. This is highlighted best on songs like “Decayer”, “Walk on Water” and “Up in Flames.”
Jared always brings hard, mosh pit inducing vocals while Beau swoops in with his crisp, emotional singing. There are also some ballads on the record where Beau’s voice really shines. Songs such as “Dead Air” and “Condition//Comatose” give listeners a pleasant break from the chaos that is Jared Wrath and also give you a heavy dose of emotion.
“Everyone in the band excels in their role and the final combined result is something truly great.”
One of Blessthefall’s biggest strengths is that they are well rounded band. Accompanied by superb vocals are some seriously catchy riffs displayed by Elliot Gruenberg and Eric Lambert along with the insane drumming of Matt Traynor. Just a warning, some riffs may bring on mosh pits in your very living room. Even on the more rock ballad songs the guitars and drumming compliment Beau beautifully.
Blessthefall are showing no signs of slowing down and that is evident with this release. It is easily their best record and one of the stand out albums in the genre, even if its not reinventing the wheel. From the catchy riffs, the strong vocal showing by both Jared and Beau, and the great production by the Sturgmeister (Joey Sturgis) himself, this is not an album you want to skip over.
